Manzini – The Ministry of Health has commissioned new medical Liquid Oxygen (LOX) storage and supply infrastructure at several high-volume public hospitals, signaling the government’s drive to improve healthcare services for all emaSwati. The handover ceremony took place at Manzini Government Hospital on the morning of July 9, 2025, led by Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula.

This project, valued at over E20 million, includes the installation of LOX tanks, medical gas piping, renovated wards, an oxygen plant room, fully automated cylinder manifolds, and the creation of a LOX hub. These upgrades aim to guarantee a steady, reliable supply of medical-grade oxygen in public health facilities across the country.

Minister Matsebula explained that the initiative was supported technically by the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and funded through partnerships with the United States government, UNITAID, the Taiwanese consulate, and UNICEF. He described the development as a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to the well-being of the nation.

“The COVID-19 pandemic revealed serious challenges in accessing medical oxygen,” said Matsebula. “Recognising this, the government acted to ensure that adequate oxygen supply capacity is available within Eswatini.”
