Matsapha – A delegation from Lesotho’s Department of Appropriate Technology Services has begun a benchmarking visit to Eswatini’s research and innovation institutions, as part of efforts to develop their own national science and technology infrastructure.

Led by Chief Engineer Kopano Tsenoli, the team arrived on Wednesday and was received by Eswatini’s Ministry of ICT through its Department of Research, Science, Technology and Innovation (RSTI). The delegation’s itinerary includes visits to the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP) in Phocweni and the Biotechnology Park in Nokwane.

Principal Secretary at the ICT ministry, Andreas Dlamini, officially welcomed the visitors and spoke during an engagement session. He said Eswatini and Lesotho share common ground in policy direction and cultural values, which strengthens cooperation between the two countries.

The Lesotho delegation said they are keen to replicate Eswatini’s model, especially as they move ahead with plans to establish a similar technology park back home. Tsenoli noted that Eswatini’s progress in innovation, digital transformation, and skills development provides useful lessons for Lesotho’s own growth.

RSTI Director Dr. Rejoice Maseko said the benchmarking tour is a timely opportunity for both countries to learn from each other. She said the visit also helps her department reflect on its own progress and identify potential gaps for improvement.
