Mbabane: Ansh Mishra, an Indian traveler is in Eswatini on a mission to travel the African continent on foot while promoting tourism.

Speaking in a media briefing organized by the Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA) in Mbabane, Mishra stated that Eswatini is the ninth country he has covered on the African Continent in his quest to cover all African countries by foot through Hitchhiking.

According to Mishra, he left his home, Allahabad on February 3, 2017, with only two of his bags, a mobile phone, a camera, and a lot of self-confidence and passion for traveling. He has already covered nine countries in Africa which include Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi DRC, Mozambique, and Eswatini, where he is currently in.

Mishra entered Eswatini on 08 January 2022 and is set to be in the country for a couple of days. Taking to social media after entering the country Mishra wrote on Facebook “Welcome to the Kingdom of Eswatini (Swaziland) Country No: 9/54. Date: 08-01-2022. Time: 09:00 AM. Successfully Crossed 9th African Land Border without Using Any Flight,” reads parts of his Facebook post.

Mishra aims to travel the whole African continent without boarding any flight rather on foot, hitchhiking all the way on the road meeting new people, and building relationships.

He revealed that in Eswatini he found a warm welcome from the people he met, and he was really enjoying being in the country. “I relay enjoy being in the country, I have experienced a warm welcome here in Eswatini. During my arrival and stay, exploring the beauty of the country, I have not been robbed or experienced any crime. The country is peaceful and welcoming, Eswatini is indeed a Switzerland of Africa” he said.

Mishra is set to visit the country’s tourism hotspots. He explained that he is the first Indian hitchhiker to walk throughout the entire Indian nation and is now aiming to cover the entire African continent.

The 32 years old, further explained that he embarked on zero budget travel to show the world that one shouldn’t stop dreaming even if he has no money. He said all he does is hitchhike in order to reach all his destinations. According to the traveler, on his journeys, he does not beg people to give him food, money, or shelter but looks for good people who can host him.

He said he is also recording video clips and interviews to help him write a documentary about the experience of the journey. “I am also looking forward to experiencing a cultural exchange between India and the African Countries and would like to give my contribution in enriching the tourism on the African Continent.”

He added that during his journey of hitchhiking across Africa, he is promoting local tourism of each African country by capturing his experiences with locals and showing the culture and hospitality of Africa towards foreign travelers.
