Mbabane: In its quest to eradicate youth unemployment the Eswatini Tourism Authority has launched the Destination Eswatini App Competition as part of its celebration of World Tourism Month. The competition has been designed in partnership with Royal Science and Technology Park.
The CEO of the Eswatini Tourism Authority, Linda Nxumalo says “the competition seeks to capitalize on the creative talents of the youth, and contribute towards generating innovative solutions to some of the country’s socio-economic challenges by harnessing the power of technology.”
“The Destination Eswatini App will afford local and international tourists the unique chance to experience the Kingdom of Eswatini’s captivating beauty and diverse tourism offerings at the touch of a button. This will add to the digital transformation of tourism in Eswatini”
The competition is open to startups and teams of up to 5 people who can offer innovative and viable solutions that will direct tourists to visitor information centres and to attractions that are available to visit. This will include their entry fees, operating hours, and distance from their current location. The App must inform users of the activities that are happening in the country and should be updated as and when information is received to make sure that tourists are always kept in the loop.
It must show accommodation establishments by location and have links that will take one to the external establishment website. A map of Eswatini, showing all the details such as road names, speed limits, and amenities must be factored in. Other essential requirements include visa and safety information such as Covid 19, hospitals, and access to police.
The Royal Science and Technology’s Senior Communication Officer, Senzo Malaza says “submissions for the competition will be evaluated for creativity and novelty, technical sophistication and business merit.”
