Mbabane: The Mahamba George hiking expedition has been launched and sponsorships worth E100 000 have been announced during its launch from three companies.
The 7th edition of the Mahamba George hiking expedition was launched on Wednesday by the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affair Moses Vilakati, at the Ministry of Tourism boardroom.
Purple Chilli a branding company, sponsored Mgamaba George with E45 000 worth of branded merchandise, while Inhlonhla announced a sponsorship worth E35 000, and Melon Ensteprise sponsored with E20 000.
Speaking on behalf of Purple Chili, Yethu Gamedze said they are proud to be partners and sponsors of the Mahmab George since their partnership started a long time ago.
Speaking on behalf of Inhlonhla Nathi Van Zuydan said they were delighted as well to be part of the seventh edition of the Mahamba George.
He said as a token of appreciation and continued support, Inhlonhla pledges E35,000.00 towards the 7th edition of the Mahamba Gorge hiking. Van Zuydan said E20 000 will go towards the charity fight against Gender-Based Violence initiative, and E15 000 will go towards the hiking expedition preparations and catering for the Chiefs on set dates.
He said as Inhlonhla they were proud to be among the founding members of this initiative. “We give thanks to the Mahamba Gorge Hiking Patrons.”
Since its inception, Van Zuydan said they have seen a growth in attendance and support annually. “We would like to commend the Mahamba team, for their continued selfless efforts towards alleviating poverty and making a positive impact on the Mahamba community. They have indeed stayed true, to not only recognizing Shiselweni’s beauty but its talent and community too.”
Despite the covid-19 effects, through the aid of sponsors, the Mahamba team managed to complete a two-room house at Mahlashaneni community and also distributed food parcels to 120 homesteads in 5 different Tinkhundla in the Shiselweni region.
We would also like to urge those who wish to attend, to remember to adhere to strict Covid-19 protocols, so as to ensure Mahamba Gorge Hiking 2021, is a Covid free event.
Speaking during the launch The Minister of Tourism thanked the companies for their continued support of the Mahambe George hiking which started seven years ago on 30 March 2014.
He noted that the event will take place under the COVID-19 situation, and urged all relevant stakeholders to ensure that during the hiking, strict covid-19 protocols are followed and the event is COVID-19 free.
Vilakati said he has tasked the organizers to make work with health officials and the team from the National Disaster Management Agency to ensure that the hiking is a COVID-19 free event that adhered to all the COVID-19 regulations.
