Mbabane: Taxi in your fingertips

As technological advancements continue to be on the rise Vusani Matsebula, a young liSwati has developed a mobile taxi application, the Leap Taxi App, to improve the taxi industry.

The Leap Taxi App was successfully launched at the City Court hotel on Saturday afternoon.

The App will come as a game-changer of the taxi industry as it will link taxi operators and customers. It is also set to solve the difficulties faced by customers in conveniently reaching promptly their destinations.

According to its founder Vusani Matsebula, Leap is a taxi app that enables registered taxi owners to work from anywhere, at any time they want to, which in turn gives taxi users a platform to be able to find and request a taxi from anywhere they are.

The application works with GPS and connects taxi riders with taxi drivers, Matsebula said riders and drivers can download the App with their smartphones from www.leapsd.africa. He said from the App riders can find and request a taxi ride, and a taxi nearest to the rider can accept a ride request, then using the phone’s GPS the driver will find the rider’s lactation for pickup. On the App, riders can also schedule a taxi pickup at their desired location and time.

Registration

Matsebula highlighted that driver registration has been opened, for registration, he said drivers must download the App from www.leapsd.africa. He said the App will be offered for free to taxi drivers for six months, thereafter we will be charging a subscription fee of E150.

For a driver to be successfully registered they must have a valid driver’s license, A valid motor vehicle road license, Vehicle Registration Card, Car insurance, Taxi license or tour operator’s license, Passport size photo, Proof of residence, and a roadworthy car as per Eswatini government standards

Matsebula said they will sign up using email and phone numbers, and fill up all required information, then a verification process will begin, after verification, drivers can start working and making money using the App.

For riders, Matsebula said all they need is to download the taxi App and register and register with their email, and then they can start requesting a ride.

According to Matsebula, the technology in the App allows the rider to identify the nearest taxi and be able to see from the app the price to pay for the ride. The location and distance will determine the price of the taxi.

Asked about payments, Matsebula highlighted that they were still in talks with different stakeholders to incorporate payment options within the app for convenience.

Matsebula added they the App is built in a way to ensure safety for both the rider and the driver, he said the App will solve the problems which are mostly faced by taxi drivers these days. He said the App has a built-in emergency button on it. The button, once pressed it will send an emergency signal and location to leap and the driver will be quickly assisted.

Matsebula further encouraged emaSwati to explore the Leap Taxi App and use it as it aims to bring solutions and improve the taxi industry.
