Mbabane: Moneni Pirates are adamant Siphosethu ‘Mjovo’ Mlotsa and Nhlanhla ‘Jive’ Nkosi remain their players despite the duo signing for Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows respectively.
Team Public Relations Officer Mlungisi Simelane said the two remained their players when speaking to EBIS Sports Show presenter Nathi ‘Mdockies’ Hlophe on Monday morning.
“As far as we know, as per the directive of the Football Association, the game is currently halted in the country. Therefore, no Pirates player has left the club. As per the football norm, before the start of the new season, EFA and the PLE will give us directions among other things, registration period dates and as a team we will take it from there,” Simelane said.
However, Simelane refused to be drawn on whether Pirates have existing contracts with the players in question. FIFA rules direct that a player can sign a team of his choice when a contract has elapsed and is also allowed to negotiate with suitors, six months before the end of contract.
Simelane continued in the interview that Pirates has not discussed anything with any team regarding the players.
“When the season was halted (by Covid-19) ending contracts were automatically triggered to the end of the season,” he contested.
It is worth noting that the Eswatini Football Association announced about a month ago that the 2019/2020 season has since been nullified.
