Lozitha-His Majesty King Mswati III has launched the Kings Cup Golf Tournament 2022 at Lozitha Palace. The launch of the Tournament comes two years after it was suspended because of the COVID 19 Pandemic. The Tournament was established by His Majesty as a means of generating finances from external sponsors and improving tourism.
Addressing the nation King Mswati said he believes that the tournament will be held at a high standard. He said “this tournament will promote the game of golf in the country and attract players from other countries to participate. It is also my belief that even Emaswati will be encouraged to take part in this sport, even at a professional level. We look forward to the day when there will be famous and professional golfers that will represent Eswatini.”
The Prime Minister, Cleopas Dlamini expressed his gratitude to the King for reviving the Kings Cup Golf Tournament especially because of its role in generating tourism and therefore generating economic spin offs for the country. The Prime Minister said “tourism is a major contributor to the economic development of this country and its GDP and so we thank His Majesty for the support that he has given to the sport of golf.”
A sum of E1.9 million has been pledged as sponsorship towards the tournament. Speaking on behalf of the contributors to the tournament, was the CEO of the Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation, Zama Ngcobo. He mentioned that “we are pleased that we have been able to contribute to the Kings Cup Golf Tournament especially at a time when the economic environment is forbidding.”
Other company’s that contributed to the tournament include MTN Eswatini, Eswatini Electricity Company and Nedbank. Players from all seven Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries are expected to participate.
