The Dominic Kunene led squad is preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) preliminary round first leg match against Somalia on March 23 away from home. During the friendly match the players were all available except for those already participating in the CAF tournament with their teams i.e. Royal Leopard. They were preparing for their League game against Milling Hot Spurs on Wednesday afternoon at Ka-Langa Technical Centre.
When contacted Eswatini Football Association Marketing and Communication Officer Muzi Radebe confirmed that Lesotho was in the country for the friendly matches.” these were just friendly matches ahead of the game of the senior National team against Somalia” said Radebe. The Somalians are expected to host their home game in Tanzania since they are facing some security challenges. Furthermore, their stadiums do not meet the required CAF standards.
The Somalians will host the National team at Dar es Salaam Stadium in Tanzania. Eswatini’s Senior National Team will host the Peter de Jongh led side on 27 March at Mbombela stadium as the country is also banned from hosting their matches in the country due to poor facilities.
Sihlangu is going to battle it out with low ranked countries like Eritrea, Djibouti, Lesotho, Somalia and South Sudan in the preliminary round of the AFCON qualifiers. The winners of the six two-legged stages will then join the 42 other countries. The players of the National team were expected to be released after the game to join their respective teams in preparations for week 17 of the MTN Premier League to be played over the weekend.
