Mbabane: The capital city giant Mbabane Highlanders have been dealt a major blow after suffering their first defeat in the hands of the Motjane based outfit Vovovo FC, by a 1-0 scoreline in an encounter that was played at the Prince of Wales Stadium on Sunday 16 January.
The capital city giant were without the service of their Head Couch Ernest Mavuso who was written on the team list for the day but was not in the stadium during the game. If the capital city giant have won their clash they will have been pitched at the summit of the log standings.
A lone goal by Vovovo FC striker Innocent Dlamini in the second half five minutes from the break was good enough to hand Mbabane Highlanders their first defeat of the season after going ten games unbeaten.
The over 1000 supporters leave the stadium dejected and the presence of the capital city giant managing Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe never helped the team to beat the premier league rokies. The second half started on a high note Vovovo looking determined to score and its pays of while the game have played only 5 minutes in the second half when Innocent Dlamini beat Highlanders goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala with a ground shot that landed at the far corner of the net.
Highlanders then come back towards the end of the game with the likes of Sabelo Ndzinisa, Kenneth Moloto, and Ben 10 all pushing forward for an equalizer, but that yielded no positive results until the referee of the day Leticia Viena blew the final whistle to mark the end of the game. During week 12 of the campaign, the black and white assembly will be playing the Mbabane derby on Sunday which is billed for Mavuso Sports Centre at 3 pm.
