Mbabane: The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) will on Thursday launch a vaccination campaign in bid to help the country reach its 70 pecent tareget of the vaccinated population, a move that will influence the government to allow fans back into the stadiums.
This was revealed by the organization’s executive member Charles Matsebula during a press conference at Sigwaca House on September 20, 2021. Matsebula was in the company of Chief Operational Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati.
“On Thursday we will be launching a vaccination campaign at Mavuso Sports Centre. Details of the campaign will be unpacked during the course of the week before the main day once we confirmed our guests for the event.”
“We believe that the campaign will encourage more football people to vaccinate since the exercise will play a role in bringing fans back to the stadium”, said Matsebula. He further stated that they would follow other necessary health precautions during the launch of the vaccination campaign.
Matsebula said PLE decided to launch the vaccination campaign after the recent announcement by the Minister of Health Lizzy Nkosi that fans would be allowed back to stadiums after the vaccination programme covers 70 percent of the population.
Football supporters have been barred from watching the beautiful game of football since the COVID-19 Outbreak early last year.
