Lobamba: Hard tackling right back Lindo Mkhonta has been named as senior football national team captain.
The Young Buffaloes defender will lead Sihlangu in this month’s back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo Brazaville. Sihlangu are in full time camp at the FA Technical Centre in readiness for the Group I assignment and Mkhonta wasted no time in declaring that as players, their minds were switched on and ready for the task ahead.
“It was not easy in the beginning of camp after five months of non-action but we have picked up and are focused on the task that lie ahead,” Mkhonta said after Wednesday’s morning session.
He described being handed the captaincy as a big duty and that he will require advise from former captains like Banele ‘Mokonose’ Dlamini and Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze who are not part of this squad.
The former Malanti Chiefs man continued that getting three away points in Brazaville will be precious and definitely pave the way for a better finish in the group.
“We are not worried about Congo Brazaville but instead, they should worry about us,” he added.
