Steve Komphela has confirmed that he will be joining Mamelodi Sundowns FC as first team senior coach after his sudden resignation at Golden Arrows on Sunday.
In their official tweet the Pretoria based outfit revealed that Komphela has been given the senior coaching post and will report to Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena who work as joint head coaches following the departure of Pitso Mosimane who joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly FC.
In a statement by Steve Komphela on Monday October 12 the veteran coach expressed his gratitude to Golden arrows FC and welcomed the opportunity given by Sundowns.
“I would like to express my deep gratitude to the chairperson of Lamontville Golden Arrows FC, Mato Madlala and to Golden Arrows FC for their support and encouragement whilst I was the head coach,” the statement read.
“Mato Madlala and Arrows contributed to my development and growth in football and I will forever be grateful to her and the team,” reads a statement issued by Komphela. He added that the opportunity given to him to join Sundowns is exciting and he is ready to work with the joint head coaches.
“I look forward to this exciting challenge and hope to contribute to the growth and success of Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa and on the African continent,” reads the statement by Komphela.
In their official tweet Mamelodi Sundowns said “Masandawana let’s welcome @komphelasteve to the home of the Champions. “He will join the Brazilians’ technical team as a First Team Senior Coach reporting to the Joint Head Coaches.” – News24
