Mbabane: Swaziland Building Society (SBS) has once again pumped in E170 000 towards tennis development.
The sponsorship was announced by the Bank’s Managing Director Mbali Sibanyoni during the handover of the SBS Tennis Development Programme sponsorship for the 2020/2021 season at an event held at the bank’s headquarters in Mbabane on Wednesday.
The sponsorship money is channeled to juniors, with a total sum of E120 000 while E50 000 will be channeled to the maintenance of the tennis court in Ezulwini.
When presenting the cheque, Sibanyoni said she was delighted by the partnership they have with the Eswatini National Tennis Association. “We have decided to continue to sponsor sports in the country and having said that I would like to commend the association for the great work over the years,” said Sibanyoni.
Last year SBS launched the National Tennis Centre at Ezulwini Olympia Africa Centre which is meant to assist in the development of tennis in the country. Sports helps in keeping us in good health and keep us physically fit.
Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga appreciated the sponsorship, saying as a ministry, they believe sports will develop to greater heights in the country. “We are looking at having our own home-grown talent in the likes of Naomi Osaka,” said the minister, adding that it was now the president’s challenge to make sure that as a country they reach that level.
