Another astute administrator has been lost in Eswatini football following the sad untimely death of former Manzini Wanderers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pat Mahlalela. Mahlalela answered to the Lord’s call on Friday morning, leaving grieve across not just the football fraternity but the sports community as a whole.
A family member confirmed the news on condition of anonymity saying, “Yes it is true but the family will brief the media after their meeting and necessary calls to close relatives. We understand that Mahlalela was a peoples person, but if we can allow the family meet endlini kaGogo first”.
Incumbent Wanderers CEO Sandile ‘Ntofo’ Dlamini confirmed the passing on of Mahlalela but said the team will release a detailed statement after getting a briefing from Mahlalela’s family.
Social media was also abuzz with words of shock and comfort.
Women Football Association (WFA) vice president Thula Simelane said, “My heart is bleeding. My soul is broken. Rest in Peace CEO”.
Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows chairman Charles Matsebula said, “Unbelievable. What a shock. Another giant has fallen. What have we done to deserve such a harsh year. Speechless. What a loyal servant. RIP Mr M”.
Mahlalela is the fourth football person to pass on in the last three months after former Mbabane Swallows Management Committee chairman Mandla Dlamini, former Premier League of Eswatini CEO John Mazibuko and top coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati.
