Mbabane: Eswatini International Felix Badenhorst looks to be the life saver, or well, Mbombela United’s Glad Africa Championship status saver.
The industrious attacker was on target again on Wednesday afternoon as Tingwenyama, as Mbombela are fondly called won 2-0 against Royal Eagles to effectively ease the side relegation woes. Also on target for Mbombela was former Orlando Pirates reserve team player Siphesihle Sangweni.
The game was played at the Randburg Rugby Stadium.
The result means, Mbombela remains 13th on the log standings ahead of the crunch last game of the season against championship chasing Ajax Cape Town on Sunday.
Now with 32 points, Mbombela still have worry about one of South Africa’s iconic sides Jomo Cosmos (30 points) and TS Sporting (29 points) who are 14th and 15th on the log table of the 16-team league.
Bottom of the log Royal Eagles have already been relegated and one more from TS Sporting, Cosmos and Mbombela will also go down.
Effectively, this means that Mbombela, who also parade other Eswatini internationals Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze and Justice Figuareido will have to avoid defeat against Ajax on Sunday to stay afloat.
