Mbabane: With three games remaining, relegation threatened Mbombela United lived to see another day as Eswatini International Felix Badenhorst rescued a point on Wednesday against Uthongathi FC.
Mbombela played to a 1-all draw with the KwaZulu Natal-based side in this Glad Africa Championship fixture played at the University of Johannesburg Stadium.
The industrious attacker combined brilliantly with his former teammate at Mbabane Swallows Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa before unleashing a left footed scorcher that took a slight deflection, sending the goalkeeper the wrong direction late in the second half.
It was Badenhorst eighth goal of the campaign. Uthongathi had opened the scorers chart with just four minutes into the game.
Mbombela, who apart from Felix and ‘Sikhali’ parade other Eswatini internationals Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu and Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze are languishing at 13th place in the 16-team league with just 28 points. The battle for survival continues on Saturday as they face-off with fifth placed Real Kings.
Also involved in the dog-eat-dog relegation battle are TS Sporting, Jomo Cosmos and Royal Eagles.
