Pigg’s Peak: Mbabane Highlanders have signed Eswatini’s future prospect Siwakhile ‘Swakis’ Shongwe from Hhohho Super League side Manchester.
The 16-year old was recently named the Ingwenyama Cup regional competition player of the tournament after helping Manchester to their second Ingwenyama Cup triumph in five years, pocketing E5 000 in a low-key prize presentation held at Happy Valley Hotel.
‘Swakis’ joins the ‘Black Bull’ on a two-year contract. He is the second confirmed signing by the capital city giants after central midfielder Sibonginkosi ‘Gudas’ Dlamini who crossed the Rubicon from bitter sworn rivals Mbabane Swallows on a one-year contract.
As Eswatini anticipate football resumption, Highlanders have been the busiest on the transfer market preparing for the restart and have already released captain Jimoh Moses, Phumlani Ngwenya, Martin Mbake, Bidemi Bamigbelu and Mthobisi Mazibuko.
“Yes it is true that I have signed for Highlanders,” a happy Swakis confirmed the news.
Born and raised at Malandalahle, Pigg’s Peak busiest township, ‘Swakis’ is considered one of the best players coming up. Malanda, the home base of struggling elite league side Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows has produced great players like Mbabane Highlanders great Nana ‘Take me Home’ Dlamini, Green Mamba’s Njabulo Tfwala and mercurial Lindokuhle ‘Ntolo’ Fakudze of Malanti Chiefs among others.
