Mbabane: World football governing body FIFA has responded promptly to Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chairman Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula claims of games manipulation in his organization by setting up an Integrity Department.
As stated in its statutes, one of FIFA’s core objectives is to promote the integrity of football. As such, FIFA has adopted an effective approach towards the fight against all forms of manipulation or the unlawful influencing of football matches or competitions.
Magagula urged local clubs to refrain from match fixing in a tell-it all speech during the PLE end of year party at Emfuleni Lifestyle last December. Magagula said this act killed the standard of football in the country.
“We call upon teams to stop match fixing as we have gathered tangible evidence of the officials who are doing this unprofessional habit. The sad part of this is that it involves top club officials such as Board of Governors, CEO’s and managers and we are saying it must stop,” Magagula said as quoted by Eswatini Observer.
“Match fixing kills the sport and the spirit of fair play. We do not want to see it in our football and we will be forced to name the corrupt officials if this habit doesn’t stop. We do have names of teams that won trophies using illicit means ways last season,” he said.
The main principles of FIFA’s integrity initiative are the promotion of integrity and the protection of football matches and competitions. This means promoting integrity internally and to the public at all times, as well as protecting football matches and competitions against match manipulation as far as possible and under all circumstances.
Within the FIFA Legal and Compliance Division, FIFA has streamlined and optimized its internal structures by creating the FIFA Integrity Department (FIFA Integrity). FIFA Integrity is in charge of implementing FIFA’s integrity initiative, by establishing preventive measures to protect FIFA competitions, by conducting preliminary investigations in connection with match manipulation and integrity, by engaging with various partners in order to expand its integrity network, as well as by assisting the member associations and confederations to develop their own integrity initiatives.
