Mbabane: Police Premier League football side Royal Leopards FC have been dealt a huge blow following the death of the team’s doctor who was one of the 11 officers who died last Thursday in a horrific road accident at Yithi-abantu Highway next to Mabhodini at New Village.
Lazarus Bheki Makama from Nkoyoyo had been in the force for less than 5 years and was a member of Operational Support Service Unit (OSSU).The horrific accident claimed the lives of eleven police officers as well as the truck driver. According to residents Makama got on well with most of the other community members. He was described as a humble young man who went all the way to lend a helping hand wherever there was a need.
The news of Makama’s death sent shock waves among members of this bustling community and people could not stop expressing their grief. A lot of them shed a tear while reflecting on who he was.
Leopard’s Public Relations Officer, Frank Hurube said the accident had robbed not only the whole force sharp minds but the football team. He said he was stumped for words on what to say on the team’s doctor whom he described as hard-working and dedicated. Hurube said with a team from the force they would visit Makama’s family to pass their condolences.
Makama has left behind his mother, two brothers and his sister.
