Mbabane: The health ministry has on Wednesday recorded the country’s highest coronavirus daily death toll in more than a week with 11 new fatalities and 153 new deaths.
Those deaths take the total number of people in the country who have died with COVID-19 to 153.
Infections have risen by 153 cases in the past 24 hours, which means 7 868 positive cases have been identified since the start of the outbreak.
The total number of people who have recovered from the virus have also increased to 6 879. The number of active cases now stands at 683.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the minister of health Lizzie Nkosi said the goal of the nation is to continue to halt the spread of COVID-19 and reduced the deaths associated with it. Nkosi said achieving this goal calls for a collective effort. Every individual has a role to play in protecting themselves, their families, their communities and the nation from this deadly, contagious illness.
Globally, 78 706 826 cases have been recorded as of 23 December 2020 with 1 730 553 deaths and 55 355 084 recoveries.
