Luve: Following his shooting to death of Zwelithinii Tsabedze on the evening of January 26, 2022, Pastor Sikhumbuzo Shongwe faces an additional murder-related sentence as he has now violated his bail conditions following the attempted murder charge that he has after shooting and injuring his estranged wife.
Shongwe is reported to have shot Tsabedze multiple times including shots to the head. Tsabedze who is a businessman is suspected to be the lover of Shongwe’s wife and the two men have a history of altercations as a result of this situation.
In this incident, Shongwe claims that he shot Tsabedze in self defence after he walked up to him at dusk in a voice clip that has been making rounds in social media today. Shongwe claims that he suspects that Tsabedze wanted to kill him and in reaction, he shot him several times.
Shongwe has since been arrested by the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) after they conducted a raid in the early hours of this morning.
This was confirmed by police Deputy Information and Communications Officer (DPICO) Inspector Nosipho Mnguni. During the course of the arrest, he was shot by the police after an altercation between the two parties occurred and he had to be rushed to the hospital where he is currently admitted.
When asked if Shongwe has been charged with murder yet, Mnguni said at the moment she was not sure whether the accused had been charged but did confirm that he was currently admitted following his shooting.
Shongwe was initially charged with attempted murder after he shot his wife Jabulile Nkonyane multiple times on the body and head and the incident occurred in August last year at Pastor Sikhumbuzo’s house in Manzini after an argument with his wife. Shongwe was granted E100 000 bail in which E10 000 was paid in cash and the other balance on surety.
Tsabedze’s death means that Shongwe has violated his bail conditions which include, among others, that he should not commit a similar offence while out on bail. This means that the state will now forfeiture the paid E10 000 as stipulated in the bail conditions that Shongwe was handed by the court.
Shongwe now faces a charge of murder and that of attempted murder and it has not been ascertained whether the gun he used for killing Tsabedze was licensed or not as the one used for shooting his wife was reportedly confiscated by the police.
