Mbabane: The cruel hands of death have struck the local football fraternity once again, this time death has claimed the life of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive Member and Vovovo Chairman Sipho ‘Tsetla’ Bhembe.
It could not be immediately ascertained what the cause of death was or when exactly Bhembe passed on as when this report was compiled as details are still scanty. However, the family of the deceased and his club have confirmed the sad news. Bhembe will be remembered by many for his testimony in court during the murder trial of former PLE Chairman, Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze who was also Mbabane Swallows Chairman.
In court, Bhembe said he was acquainted to both Gamedze and the prime suspect Sipho Shongwe, through football. He told the court that Shongwe asked him if he knew people who could help get rid of Gamedze. He clarified that Shongwe was allegedly referring to hit men who would kill Gamedze.
Bhembe said Shongwe informed him that he was not happy with Gamedze in that he was dominating them and that he was allegedly doing so through corruption. Bhembe stated that he informed Shongwe that Gamedze was his friend and that it would be difficult for him to do what he was asking him to do.
When Gamedze was murdered at Galp Filling Station on January 14, 2018, Bhembe informed the court that he immediately called the police, particularly the late Detective Solomon Mavuso and Bheki Dlamini.
An official statement of his burial and funeral arrangements will be issued by he’s family in the next few days.
