Mbabane: COVID-19 cases continue to rise rapidly as 1642 cases were reported by the Ministry of Health on Thursday.
Eswatini is already experiencing the fourth wave as COVID-19 cases surge, with the Omicron Virus spreading. According to reports the Omicron virus has been detected in over 76 countries globally.
Daily reports released by the Ministry of Health, the country conducted 1979 covid-19 tests and 1642 come out positive.
According to the reports, currently the country has 9997 active cases, of which 88 are currently admitted in hospitals. To date, 289 474 people have been fully vaccinates which is about 24.8 percent of the population.
Earlier this month the Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini announced a relaxation of COVID-19 regulations.
The highly mutated Omicron strain was first detected in South Africa and Botswana last month, sparking global panic over fears that it is more contagious than other variants.
The ministry of health has continued to urge emaSwati to exercise a high level of caution and observe all COVID-19 rules, by washing their hands and maintaining social distancing.
