“Mahoota” Claims Deceased Victim was shot by Accident

Mbabane: The businessman who killed a banker at the Mega Lounge drinking venue in Sidwashini last weekend claims that the victim was shot unintentionally when his weapon went off during a scuffle.

The businessman, Sibusiso “Mahoota” Nkambule from Emvutshini in Ezulwini made this submission during his bail application at the Mbabane Magistrate Court. He was appearing before Acting Mbabane Magistrate, Simo Simelane. He is accused of killing Bandzile Ginindza by shooting him twice, once in the left arm and then in the stomach. The shooting incident which happened on September 25, 2021 started when Nkambule walked into the Mega Lounge bar area and found his girlfriend in conversation with another man.

Narrating the story before Magistrate, Simelane Nkambule says “I requested to talk to her and while we were having our discussion we ended up arguing. One of her friends then intervened and before long a number of people had joined in including the security personnel of the of the establishment who started assaulting me.”

“I sought refuge in my car but the crowd started launching projectiles at it such as stones and bottles forcing me to escape on foot. Itook my firearm and left my car in the car park with the keys still in the ignition. The car park was congested and I couldn’t drive away. I then received a phone call later from a friend who informed me that the situation had been diffused and I could return and collect my motor vehicle. Upon my return I found that my car had been moved and parked elsewhere. I was told that my girlfriend had left with the keys.”

“This triggered another bout of anger because I really wanted to leave with the car. Another argument then ensued with the man who had allegedly given my girlfriend the carkeys. It is at this point that the deceased approached me from behind and locked his arm around my neck. We engaged in a fight in which we rolled on the ground and at this point the gun went off lodging the first bullet in his arm. This did not stop the fight however and as we continued the second and fatal shot was fired which ripped into his stomach.”

Nkambule explained that the whole incident happened very quickly and that none of them were sober. The bail application continues and Noncedo Ndlangamandla is representing Nkambule.
