Mbabane: The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Prince Simelane has directed all towns and
municipalities in the country to erect billboards and signage with the word “Hallelujah” emblazoned on
them.
Minister Simelane says the directive follows a royal command from King Mswati that the country should
flight such signs. The word hallelujah must also be posted on advertisements and digital platforms.
These must be erected at conspicuous places such as intersections of major roads including entry and
exit points within the urban boundaries.
The billboards and signage are expected to be in place for no less than one month. Municipalities are encouraged to be creative in the design and aesthetics of the billboards and signs.
King Mswati issued the directive on September 6, 2021, in a speech that coincided with the Reconstruction
Launch. He said the message was from God and it should be written and shouted in all corners of the
country. The King says the Hallelujah message stems from the three-day fasting which he had called for
in August. He says the rains that followed the fasting period were an indication that God had heard the
prayers of Emaswati.
