Mbabane: Former Eswatini TV Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bongani Austin ‘Sigcokosyancinca’ Dlamini has passed away due to COVID-19 complications.
The news of his passing surfaced on Friday morning. He is said to have passed on in a hospital in South Africa where he was airlifted after contracting COVD-19.
The death of Sgcoko was confirmed by his brother Prince Sobantu Dlamini who is the former Army Commander but didn’t wasn’t to divulge much information.
Dlamini who was also a popular traditionalist is the son of former Prime Minister Prince Bhekimphi. He became very popular through the much-loved radio programme ‘Khala Mdumbadumbane’, a programme which aims to solve problems in the Swazi Law and Custom, where he worked closely with the late Ludzidzini governor Jim ‘Mbokane’ Gama.
Independent News publisher Mfanasinbili Sihlongonyane said he was very shattered by the news of Dlamini’s passing, stating that he was one of the few traditionalists who was a source of reference on traditional issues.
His passing is also a huge blow for the media industry, not in a time when we were still looking forward to seeing Eswatini TV and Eswatini Broadcasting and Information service being merged together.
Dlamini has worked for the media industry for the longest time, He worked for EBIS and he met his retirement while he was the Chief Executive Officer of Eswatini TV.
