Mbabane: The ministry of health has announced a nationwide vaccination schedule that starts on Monday targeting people who are aged 40 and above, which aims to cover at least 30 percent of the targeted population.
In a press statement issued by the Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi on Sunday, the COVID-19 vaccination schedule will cover EmaSwati who are 40 years and above and it will take place in Tinkhundla centers that have been not been covered in the first round of the vaccine rollout.
The Minister stated that the vaccines that will be used for the vaccination are the 302 400 doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccines that were received from the United States of America (USA) through the COVAX facility.
The minister said the vaccines will help protect against severe illness and reduce deaths due to COVID—9. The minister said the vaccination will be able to cover 30 percent of the country’s population, which is a significant increase on the current coverage which is at 4 percent currently.
The minister said the country will be updated on the next schedule group for vaccination on a weekly basis.
All emaSwati from 18 years old and above have been implored to pre-register for the vaccination using this link; eswatinihealth.org. The statement states that this website can be accessed without using data and can also be used to access the weekly vaccination schedule. Those being vaccinated have been reminded to bring their pre-registration code and national ID card while registration will also take place on-site.
