Mbabane: Elangeni High School teacher Bonginkhosi Mhlanga is the new Eswatini Woman Football Association (EWFA) Chairman. Mhlanga ended Sunnboy Mabuza”s era of having led the organization since 2014. The Elangeni High School teacher won by a majority of eight (8) votes Sunday 18/07/2021 beating former chairman Sunnboy Mabuza who got only four (4) votes from the 12 voting teams.
Mhlanga’s win marks the end of the former chairman’s eight (8) years reign in the presidential seat. The chairmanship contest ended up being a two-horse race after former Secretary Aron “Katalala” Mavimbela withdrew from the elections. Mavimbela’s withdrawal was followed by Ian Nxumalo, who according to the Ethics committee chairman Magistrate Siphosini Dlamini, Nxumalo notify them about his withdrawal via an email.
The election was held at the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) headquarters in Mbabane. The new vice-chairman is Sindi Dludlu, who won the election by eight (8) votes out of the 12 votes against former Treasurer Xolile Dlamini who got four votes. The new (EWFA) Statutes that were adopted by the members during a special meeting which was held in May, the position of the general secretary and treasurer were scrapped from the elections as the EFA will hire people for these positions on a full-time basis.
The five members who were elected to join the executive committee comprised of a former vice-chairperson, Thula Simelane, who outclassed contenders by 11 votes. Tied on eight votes were Mavimbela, As Inter Ladies, Sabelo Dlamini, and Shiselweni Roses “s Director Enos Vilane. The decider for the fifth executive member stretched for over 30 minutes as the members vote three times and at the end, Lucky Dube managed to beat Bongisipho Mamba, Tomson Ndzinisa, and Mfanzile Vilakati, as he won by seven votes in the fourth round.
