Mbabane: Former Minister of Labour and Social Security Winnie Magagula has passed on.
The cause of her death could not be established at the time of compiling this report, however, there has been allegations that she succumbed to COVID-19. It was said she was admitted the Luke Commission at Sidvokodvo.
Magagula was of late serving as Deputy Chairperson of the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), before meeting her death.
Before being appointed as Minister of Labour and Social Security during the 2013-2018 term, she held the realms of the Minister of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) during the 2008-2013 term.
When sought for comment, EBC Spokesperson Mbonisi Bhembe said there was no formal report brought to his office at that moment hence he cannot make any further comments. He said, however, he just heard about Magagula’s demise.
Means to get hold of her daughter Nqobile Magagula who is also Eswatini Post and Telecommunications (EPTC) Corporate Affairs Manager proved futile as her phone rang unanswered.
Magagula’s death comes shortly after that of former Minister Dumisani Ndlangamandla who actually came in as Minister of ICT after Winnie Magagula in 2013. Ndlangamadla served as Minister of ICT during the 2013 to 2018 term while Magagula by then was Minister for Labour and Social Security.
Ndlangamadla also died of COVID-19.
