Mbabane: Former Minister of Public Works and Transport, Ntuthuko Dlamini has shot and killed two men at Mhlabubovu, over land dispute. Dlamini then handed himself to the police after the shooting.
The former LaMgabhi Member of Parliament and the deceased men are alleged to have had a disagreement over land which led to Dlamini pulling a trigger, claiming two lives. Speaking to Swaziland News, LaMgabhi Umphakatsi Secretary said they were embroiled in a land dispute which led to the unfortunate incident.
It has been gathered that the people shot by Dlamini are Simon Shongwe a retired police officer, Simon Dlamini Luyengo community police, Tsabedze who is the chief’s runner (Umgijimi) from Luyengo. Shongwe and Tsabedze died on the spot, while Dlamini was critical in hospital.
It has been gathered that before the unfortunate incident, Dlamini saw a group of men gathered around the area that is being disputed over and he approached the men and asked what were they doing there and out of the blue one man drew his gun and shot Dlamini unfortunately he missed, Dlamini then responded by drawing his gun as well and shot back and regrettably he shot three of the men, the two died and one got injured.
Royal Eswatini Police Service Chief Information and Communication Officer Phindile Vilakati told Independent News that the former minister handed himself on Monday afternoon after shooting to kill the two men. Vilakati said actually, Dlamini shot three men, but the third one didn’t die, instead he was rushed to the hospital. Vilakati declined to give more details on the state of third man and in which hospital the man was admitted to.
Vilakati said all the three man that Dlamini shot were senior citizens above 60 years old. She explained that currently, police are still investigating the bone of contention that led to the shooting. Dlamini is facing two murder charges and one of attempted murder.
