Mbabane: The construction of the E280 million Mbabane Government Hospital Referral and Emergency Complex is reportedly 95 percent complete.
This is according to the Project Manager, Mcebo Maziya who said they are currently working on the two remaining floors, out of the four which consist of the entire building.
The building will replace the more than 50 years old Out Patient Department (OPD) building at the Mbabane Government Hospital.
According to the projects manager, the basement of the building will house a chapel for bereaved families, a 70-body mortuary and a private viewing and waiting area for families. The projects manager mentioned that the facility would come with improved facilities for patients as well as provide better working environment for medical staff.
The funds for the construction of the hospital wing, which started in 2017 during the late Prime Minister, Dr Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini’s tenure were donated by the Republic of China on Taiwan to a tune of about 20 million US Dollars, which is equivalent to E280 million.
According to the late PM, the old OPD was in appalling condition and the need for a replacement was not an option but a necessity.
