Nasty crash!
Manzini: A police quantum ferrying police officers to work crashed head on with a tipper and burst into flames.
The tragic incident happened along the Mhlaleni-Ngwane park road (MR9) near Mabhodini on Thursday afternoon.
It could not be ascertained as to how many officers were on board the quantum, but there are unconfirmed reports saying many lives were lost in the accident.
The quantum is said was from Ngonini ferrying OSSU officers to their duty stations as they were about to change shifts.
Sources close to the accident scene revealed that they heard a huge noise of the collision and there was a huge smoke as the police quantum burst into flames. “It is suspected that the police officers inside the quantum were carrying guns as they were about to report to work, hence after the collision, as the guns reportedly exploded and the quantum court up fire”.
“Fire personnel were quick to arrive but couldn’t help as some of the officers allegedly died on the spot”, said one of the onlookers.
“It looks like about ten police officers have died some were rushed to hospital and admitted in a critical condition.”
At the time of compiling this report, about 10 had died and 4 were reportedly admitted and in a critical condition.
Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Inspector Nosipho Mnguni confirmed the accident but was quick to say police were not in a position to disclose as she was already driving to the accident scene. “I am on my way to the scene, but I can confirm that we got reports of a police quantum which collided head on with a tipper at Ngwane Park. I will not disclose much as I am currently on my way to the accident scene,” she said.
