Mbabane: League of Churches President, Bishop Samson Hlatshwayo has cautioned against fasting for long periods of time. Hlatshwayo mentioned that amidst the rising levels of the coronavirus the church should at least take a fast in the morning and break it at midday, saying the virus would capitalize in situations where the body is weak.
He said the church should be mindful of adhering to the COVID-19 regulations while undertaking this Christian obligation, saying they should avoid gathering in groups. He said traditionally and depending on denomination churches would embark on fasting in groups away from concentrated areas. They would go to places like mountains and other isolated areas, he said. Government’s regulations dictate that people stay in one place amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus all to prevent its spread.
“I encourage that the church rather embarks on intermittent fasting methods, all of which split the day into eating periods and fasting periods,” said Hlatshwayo. Hlatshwayo said this was the time where on behalf of the populace the church should seek the face of God and ask for His intervention amid the COVID-19 crisis.
