Sikhuphe -In his first official international trip in three years King Mswati II jetted out of Sikhuphe International Airport for Kigali, Rwanda to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The meeting started on June 20,2022 and will end on June 25 ,2022.
The Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Newman Ntshangase said “the summit will discuss economic issues such as food security in commonwealth countries and the high prices of food.”
Rwanda is hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which brings together leaders and representatives from the group’s 54 members, most of which are former British colonies.
It’s the first time the biennial meeting has been held in four years, after the 2020 CHOGM was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
King Mswati was accompanied by Inkhosikati LaFogiyane, HRH Princess Sikhanyiso, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and international Cooperation Thuli Dladla and other senior members of state.
The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) is expected to be opened by Prince Charles who will represent Queen Elizabeth. The Prime Minister of UK Boris Johnson will head over the role of Chair-In-Office of the Commonwealth to the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame.
King Mswati III will then leave Rwanda for Singapore where he will join a meeting of the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA) and Singapore Enterprise aimed at marketing the Kingdom of Eswatini as an investment destination for the world and Asian market.
