Mbabane-The former Private Secretary to King Mswati III, Sam Mkhombe has passed away. Mkhombe who was 68 years of age died peacefully at his home in Mbabane.
He was one of the founding members of the country’s first ever Human Rights Association of Swaziland (HUMARAS) together with the late Dr. Joshua Mzizi and Dr. Jerry Gule and former South Africa’s Resident Representative to the UN, Vika Khumalo.
Mkhombe became most prominent when he was appointed as the Private Secretary to the King in 1993 where he served for 18 years. On 27,01 2011 it was announced by the Chairman of the Royal Board of Trustees, Majozi Sithole that his term as the Kings Private Secretary had been terminated. He was sacked along with Mathendele Moses Dlamini. They were fired for attempting to revive the Imbokodvo National Movement.
Before joining the King’s Office, Mkhombe was the General Manager of the Swaziland Royal Insurance Corporation, where he worked for seven years.
Mkhombe studied Political Science at the University of Botswa-na, Lesotho and Swaziland.
From 1981 to 1982, he went to Ghana where he did a Postgraduate Diploma in Record Management. He further went to the London School of Economics where he did his Masters in Industrial Relations.
