Cape Town-The Economic Freedom Fighter Deputy President, Floyd Shivambu has made a call to South Africa’s Parliament to pay specific attention to Eswatini because political parties are not allowed to exist there.
Shivambu told the parliament that a lot of activists who are trying to call for democratic reform have been arrested. “In Eswatini there is no constitutional order but it is an absolute monarchy and possibly the only in the whole world where the parliamentary and executive functions are performed by the royal family and political activity is not permitted there to the extent that the Prime Minister is appointed by the King.”
He went on to mention that when Members of Parliament (MP) express their disagreement with the King they get arrested and detained. As it stands there are MP’s that have been arrested for more than twelve months.” He called for the legislature to take a closer look at what is happening in Eswatini because there is no space for political activity there.
Shivambu went on to say “apart from those that have been arrested and detained, there are those that are in exile in the neighbouring countries because they are not permitted to exist and express their opinion.”
