Mbabane: The unforgiving scourge of COVID-19 has claimed yet another life of a politician, the Minister of Labour and Social Security Makhosi Vilakati. Vilakati died shortly after being transferred to a South African hospital for specialized COVID-19 treatment procedures not available in the country.
Sources close to the matter confirmed the Minister’s demise, revealing that he died upon arrival at the South African hospital where he was rushed to on Saturday evening.
The Minister died shortly after the Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku released a statement on Saturday evening, saying Vilakati was transferred from Lubombo Referral Hospital to a South Africa hospital for specialized COVID-19 treatment procedures not available in the country.
Minister Vilakati is the second cabinet Minister to die of COVID-19 in the country following the Minister of Public Service Christian Ntshangase who passed on last week. Ntshangase was laid to rest on this Saturday, 23 January 2021 at his home at Mkhwahweni.
Both Ministers who have succumbed to this unforgiving scourge of COVID-19 died shortly after the late Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini who also died of COVID-19. Dlamini died in December 2020 while he was receiving treatment in South Africa.
