Mbabane: Mario Masuku, the founder of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), Eswatini’s banned opposition party has passed on.
Masuku died at the age of 70, having served for over 23 years with PUDEMO. The cause of his death could not be established.
PUDEMO’s National Spokesperson Brian Sangweni, in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, informed the members of the party, the entirety of Emaswati and the party’s allies locally and globally of this sad development.
Sangweni said PUDEMO’S leadership was saddened by the passing of their beloved and long serving President Comrade Mario Masuku. He said they were shattered and devastated, they never fathomed that their brightest star would lit the revolutionary skies at this point in time.
Sangweni said PUDEMO and Masuku family will make updates on further developments.
In 2019, Masuku received a sum of E1 million which was pumped in by South African’s Economic Freedom Fighters. The donation was announced by EFF’s leader Julius Malema who referred to Masuku as an elderly man who has been in out of prison in Eswatini.
