Late PM Mandvulo Dlamini’s funeral on Boxing Day

Mbabane: The late Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini will be laid to rest on Boxing Day, December 26, 2020.

This is according to a memo that was sent to senior police officers, which independent news has seen. The memo identifies the senior police who will be poll-bearers during the late Premier’s funeral. The names of the police officers are known to this publication but they are deliberately withheld for ethical reasons.

A poll-bearer is someone who helps in carrying or officially escorting a coffin during a funeral. In this regard the police officers will be the poll-bearers since the Prime Minister was also the Minister responsible for the Royal Eswatini Police Services department.

The Police officers are expected to commence their rehearsals on Monday, December 21, 2020.

Moreover, a statement issued by the Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku on Wednesday evening confirmed the date to when the late Prime Minister wil be laid to rest. Masuku said the Premier will be laid to rest on the aforementioned date in accordance with Royal Dictates (Lisiko LeMalangeni).

Masuku said a State Funeral Service will be held at his parental home in Nhlanhleni on December 25, 2020 starting at 2pm.

The late Prime Minister’s memorial service will be held at the Jesus Calls Worship Centre in Matsapha on December 24, 2020 starting at 11am.

Attendance numbers will be restricted in respect of COVID-19 regulations.

Prime Minister Dlamini passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020, at the age of 52, during treatment for COVID-19 in a South African hospital. Dlamini was diagnosed of COVID-19 on November 15, 2020.

Dlamini was airlifted to the South African hospital on December 1. Prior to his transfer to the South African hospital, Dlamini was admitted to Lubombo Referral Hospital after being admitted to Mbabane Government Hospital ICU after he presented mild symptoms of the coronavirus.

Dlamini will be accorded a state funeral in accordance with Finance Circular No.2 of 2013. This announcement was made by the Deputy Prime Minister Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku during a press conference at the Cabinet offices on Monday December 14.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Eswatini has recorded 6 912 cases while 6 476 people have recuperated from the coronavirus.
