LOBAMBA: Vocal Hosea Member of Parliament (MP) Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza, has raised a motion which seeks to, through the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) force Justice Minister Pholile Dlamini-Shakantu to disqualify Lobamba Lomdzala MP Marwick Khumalo.
Mabuza made his submissions as the mover of the motion at the House of Assembly, sitting before Speaker Petros Mavimbela. MP Mabuza’s motion was seconded by Maseyisini MP Mduduzi ‘Small Joe’ Dlamini.
Minister of Justice of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Pholile Shakantu was present during the Parliament session which had a long list of items for the day to be discussed.
“To move that the Hon Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs through the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) disqualifies Honourable Member of Lobamba Lomdzala Inkhundla on grounds set out herein under Section 96 and 97 of the Constitution Act No.001 of 2005 provides the mandatory qualification to stand for elections of Members of Parliament and disqualification for such. Among the qualification imposed under any law in force on Eswatini relating to general elections. This is in the spirit of Section 97(1) (e). The Elections Act No.10 of 2013 is the law contemplated by Section 97(1) (c) of the Constitution. Section 88 of the Elections Act applies to the Hon Member in that he was charged with offence mentioned under the Prevention of Corruption Act No 03 of 2006” read the motion without notice, number 18/2020.
However, the motion could not proceed for a debate as majority of the MPs voted for it to be moved to September 21 where it will be debated by the Honourable House of Assembly. Though the postponement of the motion did not sit well with MP Mabuza who could not find the reasons why it could not proceed as Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo was present at the Parliament.
MP Khumalo briefly told Independent News that he views the motion as a vote of no confidence on him by the Members of Parliament.
The motion is expected to be extensive and dominate the august house discussions more so because the mover, MP Mabuza has a massive following and influence in Parliament while MP Khumalo is a veteran politician who also commands huge following based on the fact that he is one of the long serving MPs in the Eswatini Parliament.
More of interest is that the seconding Maseyisini MP Mduduzi ‘Small Joe’ Dlamini who once demanded answers from the Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo over the matter.
