Mbabane: Government is expected to launch a new national youth policy on Wednesday September 2, 2020, to replace the outdated one.
A statement sent to this publication states that Government, through the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, will present to the nation the new National Youth Policy on Wednesday, 02 September 2020. “The review and formulation of the new Policy has been made possible through support from the UNFPA”.
The launch of the Policy comes at the end of wide ranging reviews and consultations to update the previous Policy adopted in 2009. The new Policy is aimed at providing new guidance within Government as well as the private sector on the handling of youth issues within the country.
According to Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Prince Mlayeto, the Policy builds on the gains achieved by the 2009 Policy while also addressing the old Policy’s numerous gaps.
The Policy focuses on two aspects of the young person’s life: capacitating them with the relevant skills and knowledge as well as creating an environment within which they can adequately make use of their skills and knowledge.
“Our review centered on engagement so we are proud that we will be launching a Policy that has been informed by the voices of young people themselves as well as the various stakeholders with an interest in youth issues in the country,” said the Principal Secretary.
