Mbabane: Third men’s clinic in the country has been opened
Because June is a month that focuses on men’s health, the Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi officially launched men’s health month and also opened the Mbabane Male Wellness Clinic.
Mbabane Male Wellness Clinic is located just in the outskirts of Mbabane, about two kilometers from the CBD, on the building which housed Re/Max, next to UN offices. The hospital is equipped with all the necessary facilities to cater for men’s health. The facility started operating in February and opens from Mondays to Friday.
Speaking during the official opening of the clinic, the Minister of Health said the country has now three official clinics that focuses on men’s health in the country.
Nkosi said statistics shows that men are not used to go to hospitals and he urged all men to be encouraged this month and go to health facilities for checkups.
She requested medical personnel in the health facilities to take care of men each time the come to hospitals as this will make the like coming to hospitals due to the services offered to them.
She said it was so sad that men don’t like going to hospital and only go when the sickness has worsen and the condition is bad.
The minister said the clinic is so special and unlike the others that were opened before. This, she said Mbabane Male Wellness Clinic is designed in a way to admit men and their partners. She said since its men’s health month men are encouraged to come in numbers to do their regular checkups.
The minister of heath was echoed by Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs Moses Malindane Vilakati who was also part of the delegation.
Vilakati encouraged men to use the facility and commended the administration for setting up such a hospital. “I will like to encourage men it come here, the hospital is close to the road and easily accessible.” He said.
Mbabane Male Wellness Clinic is an initiative of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation with funding from PEPFAR through USAID in support of the Eswatini Ministry of Health. The facility initially started operations in February 2020 and it aims at providing comprehensive high quality services to males of all ages. The facility also provide services to female clients, especially when coming to the facility with their male partners.
