Mbabane- In a dramatic turn of events, a federal judge in the District of Columbia has temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s sweeping order to freeze to freeze up to $3 trillion in federal grants and loans.
On Tuesday evening, Judge Loren AliKhan granted an ‘’administrative stay” in response to a lawsuit filed by Democracy Forward, a non-profit organization. The lawsuit argued that the Trump’s administration’s abrupt action, which was issued by the White House Office of Management and Budget late Monday, violated the First Amendment and the Administrative Procedure Act.
The judge set a hearing for February 3 to determine whether the freeze should be permanently blocked.
This move comes after Eswatini has been overwhelmed with reports that USA suspends NGOs funding. Reports suggest that Eswatini received about E 831.15 million (USD 44.42). The funds are for purchasing antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), condoms, pre-exposure prophylaxis and for enhancing systems for collecting and analysing data on epidemiology, including interactions between diseases such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes and hypertension.
