5-year contract entails Sibaya mandate. Minister also announces Ngwenya by-election date
Mbabane – Minister of Housing and Urban Development Apollo Maphalala has announced Gciniwe Fakudze as the new Mbabane Municipal Council Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
This was this morning at the ministry’ boardroom during a press briefing where the former Matsapha Town Board CEO was also present.
Fakudze who had been with MTN Eswatini will resume her new office duties on August 19, 2024 according to Minister Maphalala.
“We now have a candidate to hold forth in the position of the CEO for the Mbabane Municipal Council. She will assume her office duties on August 19, continuous for a period of five years and her contract renewal terms will depend on performance,” he said.
He said they were happy to announce Fakudze as the new CEO of the Mbabane Municipal Council.
“We know her in the space of local government and we hope she would help develop and improve the capital city working together with councillors, council staff and management as well as stakeholders,” he said.
The legislator added that Fakudze’s five-year renewable contract comprised an additional clause or mandate which was that of Sibaya resolutions.
These include creation of jobs, improved service delivery, reduction of poverty and the curb of corruption amongst others. The minister wished the new CEO well and encouraged residents of Mbabane to support her in executing her duties.
On another note, minister Maphalala announced that on August 3, 2024, Ngwenya Town Board will hold by-elections to fill a vacant councillor position following the demise of the Ward councillor last year.
“Ngwenya Town Board will hold by-elections on August 3, 2024, after the death of one our councillors. The elections will proceed just like it occurred last year. Ngwenya people will use the same polling station and all voting procedures should be adhered to as guided by the Urban Government Act 1969,” he said.
The minister encouraged the residents of Ngwenya to go and vote so that voice could be heard at local government level.
