Ezulwini: Award winning rapper Illa Penboy has taken it upon himself to help the less privileged during the partial lockdown period.
The rapper’s real name is Sifiso Ndlangamandla. Speaking to Independent News Illa Penboy said they have reached close to 1000 children since the launch of the campaign.
“As the campaign enters day 5 today a total of over 1000 bread have been delivered to different care points around Ezulwini, Matsapha and Manzini,” said Illa. He mentioned that more pledges were flowing coming in and more people were promising to support the initiative.
“As we deliver the bread we adhere to the ministry of health guidelines and precautions, and we donate bread to care points while also practicing social distancing.
The ‘Donate Bread Campaign’ has received huge support from members of the public and companies who came in with donations.
Premier Bakeries donated 200 loaves of bread, Invasion Lifestyle 200, Cheeks Nxumalo and friends donated 270, to name but a few.
With the effects of the lock down many people have said some people will not be killed by covid-19 but hunger. When he stated the campaign on Monday 6 April 2020 he posted on his social media page with boxes filled with bread asking Emaswati to join him to donate bread to the less privileged.
Illa mentioned that some people cannot afford to buy food which is why he decided to start delivering the free bread.
He said he hoped that people would continue to donate to the initiative, as they planned to run with it for as long as he could.
Illa encouraged people to care for each other and take all the necessary precautions given by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization.
“People should continue wash their hands frequently and also practice social distancing,” said Illa, reminding that people should cover their mouth when sneezing or coughing.
“I don’t have much but I am sharing the little that I have. If anyone is interested in joining me they can inbox me or WhatsApp 7863 7196. Let us take care of each other,” he said.
