Ezulwini: Exciting news for young artists is that Eswatini’s biggest music talent search competition, The Spotlight-Made Brighter By MTN, will be launched digitally this coming Friday on August 20, 2021.
The news of The Spotlight Season 3 was disclosed by MTN Brand and Sponsorship Manager Landokuhle Dlamini in a press statement.
She said the launch event is slated to take place from 5.30pm to 7pm and will be streamed live digitally on MTN Eswatini’s social media platforms and YouTube. This is due to adherence to COVID-19 regulations and full details of how this year’s season will be rolled out, including prizes, partners and sponsors will be unpacked at the event. Additionally, the event will also reveal the main competition judges for Season Three, the criteria for joining and platforms to be used for participating.
The competition, which is returning for its Third Season, is hosted by MTN Eswatini and is aimed at unearthing and empowering young talent from Eswatini.
People who log on to the live feed will also stand a chance to win some prizes according to Dlamini, who says this is because they want people to encourage people to host watch parties and in the process support and promote local talent.
Dlamini says everyone deserves to have a shot at their dream and through The Spotlight, they are providing a platform for the youth to leave their mark and chase their music goals.
“We are excited to announce the return of The Spotlight for yet another season which we believe will be bigger and better while empowering young talent around the country. The event details have been confirmed and it will also feature some of our finest local talents as entertainment,” she said.
Dlamini said the reason to continue supporting the competition was that the creative economy plays a vital part in the development of the country and is driven by the youth.
“Young people express themselves differently and many of them love the arts and in particular music. MTN Eswatini, through the Spotlight and various products linked to The Spotlight like Ayoba-Free Instant Messaging and Pulse, are all set up to empower the youth to achieve their goals without hurdles or data or opportunities,” she said.
The first instalment of the Spotlight was launched in 2019 and saw a young man from NhlanganoLlucid winning the competition. Last year Sethu Magagula from Mliba walked away with the grand prize of a Kia Picanto, phone, recording deal among others.
The support of the Second Season was overwhelming, in just five weeks the Competition was able to record over 290 000 votes. This goes to show that the entire country was indeed behind the contest and 2021 promises to be even bigger.
Dlamini encouraged members of the public to continue monitoring the press and social media for updates on the latest news about the launch including the list of performers.
