Mbabane: Despite challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, The MTN spotlight season 2 is back and will be broadcast digital.
The exiting news were shared by MTN Senior Manager, Consumer, Meshack Maseko, in a statement. Maseko said, as MTN they were proud to see the return of the Kingdoms favorite music talent search, which seeks to unearth the country’s hidden music gems by putting them on ‘The Spotlight’ – giving them a platform to unleash their potential.
He said the official launch of the spotlight season 2 will be held on September 25, 2020 at 6pm and will be broadcast live on MTN’s digital pages.
“Given the current COVID-19 crisis, we have adapted to the New Normal, taking the show to new heights by going digital. ‘We are excited to continue to provide a platform for undiscovered local talent, as they too are excited to share what they have been up to during this period. The world may have gone into a standstill, but the music never stops”, said Maseko
With a successful execution of Season 1 in 2019, MTN has assured the nation that Season 2 is going bigger and better and will be available for everybody to be a part of it. Maseko disclosed that there will be some exciting new developments that people can look forward to, “and we encourage the youth to take this opportunity to launch their musical careers”.
We have seen tremendous growth from the Season 1 winner Llucid and runners up Yemaa and Oxygen, with their careers being under the spotlight and their brands gaining the awareness that this music competition aims to contribute towards.
The MTN spotlight is an initiative by MTN Eswatini that seeks to unearth the Kingdom’s hidden music ‘gems’ by putting them on ‘The Spotlight’-giving them a platform to unleash their potential.
The first season in 2019 kicked off with auditions being held across all four corners of Eswatini with each region being afforded the chance to showcase their talent for the opportunity get put on The Spotlight. It received over 800 applicants in total showing up and thirty of them making the cut on Canary Day to advance to the elimination stages.
The winner of the spotlight Season 1 was Llucid who won himself a Kia Picanto, Music recording deal with many other prices from MTN and other sponsors. Runners up were Yemaa and Oxygen, whom with their careers being under the spotlight and their brands gaining the awareness that this music competition aims to contribute towards.
