Mbabane: Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi has announced that the death toll has increased to 20 as two new deaths reported on Sunday, along with 40 new confirmed cases.
In the daily reports on COVID-19, the Health Minister revealed that the 19th death is of a 53 year old female from Manzini Region. She was seen on July 8 in one of the country’s facilities and was treated for mild symptoms of COVID-19 disease. Her condition later worsened rapidly while also being treated for pre-existing chronic illnesses. She was confirmed death in one of the country’s facilities.
Death number 20 was a 61 year old female from Manzini Region. She was admitted at one of the country’s facilities as a COVID-19 suspect, but demised before her results confirming COVID-19 disease returned in July 11.
Nkosi went on to announce that the total number of infections has also increased to 1351 as a total of 40 new confirmed cases were reported on Sunday. Nkosi said the 40 positive results came out of 377 results.
Nkosi also announced 12 new recoveries, bringing up the total number of recoveries to 668.
Minister said Manzini remains the epicenter of the pandemic in the country as 705 cases come from the region. Hhohho region comes second with a total of 413 cases.
Shiselweni region has passed Lubombo region and comes third with a total of 123 confirmed cases whereas Lubombo has recorded 110 cases.
Nkosi encouraged people with pre-existing illnesses to do regular check ups at least once a year as most of the deaths are people with pre-existing illnesses and mostly are of the senior citizens.
