Mbabane: Cleared!
That is none other than Minister of Health Lizzy Nkosi who was cleared of the deadly COVID-19. This was revealed by the minister herself on Friday at a press briefing at the Cabinet offices, when giving update on government’s response to COVID-19.
Nkosi said she tested for the virus after two of her staff members tested positive for COVID-19 and she was among those who had contact with the positive staff members. The health minister said one of the reasons that saved her from contracting the coronavirus is that she is currently not working from her initial office at the interministerial building, but using another one at Copper Centre, Mbabane while the staff members are those who are still working at the initial office.
Nkosi went on to clarify what exactly was causing the increase in the number of new confirmed cases of late. She said one of the reasons is the reopening of most businesses, allowing more movement of people from one place to another. The minister added that we are currently getting into the winter season where more flue like sicknesses are expected and more tests were conducted hence the increase in the number of new cases.
The minister highlighted that said since more businesses will be opening from Monday, her ministry will intensify testing by adding more people working in the rapid response teams to make sure that more tests are conducted and those found positive be taken for treatment.
According to Nkosi, the end of June will give a reflection of the impact of opening more businesses as more people will be moving around, mostly going to work. She urged the public to continue adhering to all health precautions given by the ministry of health and World Health Organization (WHO). She emphasized on wearing of masks, washing of hands with running water and soap, practicing social distancing and stressed that those who are not going to work must stay at home.
